Mechanics aren't the only ones that should look to buy these gloves. Anyone that does any heavy hand-related jobs should grab a pair of these. Durable, form-fitting gloves for those tough jobs.

After graduating high school, I needed a fulltime job since I had made a decision not to go to college. I was working part-time at a local grocery chain, and ask to be transferred to their warehouse to get a job with benefits and better pay. I found that they had some openings in the refrigerated warehouse. This area was mainly kept at anywhere between 35 to 40 degrees, which meant that I would need a way to keep my hands warm. I was not a big fan of wearing gloves to do any kind of work, but I had to wear them at work. I felt that gloves were too cumbersome and mainly were a pain in the neck. The fit of these gloves were so loose and bulky that doing any kind of smaller, finer work was impossible. After I decided to go truck driving, I thought my work-related glove wearing days were over. I was wrong and this all brings me to my point that there are only two reasons to wear gloves. The first is to keep your hands warm and the second is to protect your hands from blisters and other injures. I have been noticing that many mechanics that I have ran across in the past few years have been wearing mechanics gloves as a way to save their hands from injury. The thought never occurred to me how helpful these gloves would be for me until Sears put the Craftsman Mechanics Gloves 47657 in their Craftsman Club sale paper for half off and a 10% club discount. The time was right to buy these gloves and so was the price.
What are these gloves? These gloves are mainly made of two materials. The back of the glove is made of padded very stretchable spandex elastic. The whole palm and finger area is made of synthetic leather for durability. The inside of thumb area is reinforced since that is one of the most likely places that wear will occur. On the cuff is a Velcro hook and loop strapping that keeps these gloves tightly fit on your hands. These gloves are machine washable, but DO NOT put them in the dryer. The sizes vary from medium, large, and extra large. They all have a different model number. My hands are pretty big and I found the large size (47657) fit perfectly. I would advise trying them on at the store when you buy them for the best fit.
My main uses. When I first bought these gloves, I truly thought that my uses for them would be few and far between. Once again I was wrong. I started by using them while working with my shovels, rakes, and cultivators in my garden. They also helped protect my hands while I was working with my roto-tiller. Soon I found that they also worked pretty well for outside repair work, while using my drills, hammer, screwdrivers, and other hand tools. I also found myself using these gloves for working on my mowers and tractors. These jobs usually involved scraped knuckles and cut fingers. The gloves helped protect my hands in all of situations, and truly didn’t hamper my ability to get the jobs done.
What I like. First and foremost these gloves fit my hands perfectly. The leather part is very flexible and doesn’t seem to be overly bulky. The spandex backs stretch and helps these gloves fit on my hands like a second skin. I sometimes seem to even forget that I am even wearing gloves when I have them on a long time. The combination of materials is not only good for fit, but also for allows your hands to breathe. This is normally a big problem with other types of gloves, my hands are always sweating. The palm and fingers make gripping easy. With the Velcro closure, there is no chance that these gloves will slip off of my hands. I never had pair of gloves that I could do the types of things that I can do while wearing these gloves. After about six months of medium use these gloves are still in good condition. Comfort, great fit, and durability all wrapped into one is the way that I describe them.
All in all I found the perfect pair of gloves to do most of my outside work. I am not much of a car mechanic, but I do get into enough jobs that owning a pairs of these gloves is well worthwhile. I do recommend these gloves to anyone that wants to help save their hands from injury. Gardeners, carpenters, lawn care people, and even your everyday handyman homeowner will enjoy the protection from wearing these mechanics gloves.
